Unlike traditional tooth roots, dental implants are made from biocompatible titanium, a durable material commonly used in medical procedures. When a tooth is lost, both the crown and root are missing. A dental implant replaces the root portion, creating a strong foundation for a new replacement tooth.

After the implant is placed, time is allowed for the jawbone to heal and bond with the titanium implant. Once the implant has integrated with the bone, an abutment is attached to support the final crown or replacement teeth. Depending on your situation, temporary teeth may also be placed during the healing process. For patients missing multiple teeth, several implant-supported restoration options are available.

For some patients, dental implants may be placed at the same time as a tooth extraction, helping reduce the number of surgical appointments needed.

Dental implant treatment is a collaborative process between your oral and maxillofacial surgeon and restorative dentist. Dr. Humes performs the implant placement, tooth extractions, and bone grafting procedures when needed. Your restorative dentist will then complete the final restoration, including crowns, bridges, or other prosthetic solutions.
